BSA Troop 671 was founded on 6/15/1951 with 7 scouts and held weekly meetings in the old Fire Hall next to the Nokesville Post Office. The troop has had many outstanding leaders that have kept the BSA program operating for over 55 years. The troop now has about 80 active scouts and 30 active adult leaders.
Today the troop meets at the Brentsville District High School in Nokesville, VA and performs many community service projects annually, including posting flags along the main street in Nokesville for major holidays and cleaning up Fitzwater Drive and Marstellar Drive as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program. This scout led troop goes camping at least once a month during the normal scout season from September through July and participates in many water sports with the troop owned canoes. Other activities include rappelling, caving, hiking, biking, and fishing. A specialty of the troop is cooking, excelling in preparing meals in cast-iron dutch ovens.
With all of these activities available, these young men still find time to work on rank advancement and building leadership skills. Since the inception of the troop, over 75 scouts have achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Each of these outstanding scouts has led visible scout service projects, and left a positive impact on our community. Scouting is a program with a purpose!
